Evetts Field in the Woomera Prohibited Area

Radiometric imagery withheld from public at Evetts Field and Lake Reynolds, SA.

Recent high-detailed radiometric imagery from the Gawler Craton Airborne Survey (GCAS) is not available for the area surrounding Evetts Field. A close examination of the data file shows that this area was over-flown, but the data has been removed. This may be to conceal the radiometry of the shed containing the 10,000 drums of CSIRO waste from processing Uranium and Thorium ores at Fishermans Bend. It may also conceal the old HIFAR core of the Lucas Heights reactor.

A small sample of these drums have been previously analyzed by CSIRO.

The condition of these drums is deteriorating, and the Federal Government wants to move them to an interim intermediate-level waste storage facility at Kimba, SA.
