Question What are the main causes of lung cancer? Answer The main cause of lung cancer is smoking, but there are also other risk factors including exposure to radon, air pollution, and secondhand smoke, as well as a history of lung disease or certain genetic mutations. Question What is the main source of radon exposure in humans? Answer The main source of radon exposure in humans is through the air in homes and buildings. Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas that is released from the ground and can seep into buildings through cracks in the foundation or other openings. Once inside, it can become trapped and build up to high levels, leading to increased risk of lung cancer. Question How is radon produced in the environment? Answer Radon is produced in the environment as a result of the natural decay of uranium and thorium, which are found in small amounts in soil, rock, and water. As these elements decay, they release radon gas, which can then seep into the air and into ...

China Australia Mining PTY LTD at Hawks Nest, NSW

Image
Mineral sand stockpiles from 50 years ago are being recovered by this company. One stockpile is just north of the Hawks Nest golf links. It is visible in radiometric imagery. National Parks seem to be happy with the removal of this radioactive material. It has also been removed from Bundjalung NP. China Australia Mining was the company's business name from 2021-08-21. Other business names include Greencoast Environmental Rehabilitation. Their official company name changed on 2007-06-21 to China Australia Mining Pty Ltd. The company had used this name up until 2021-08-24. This Australian proprietary company was previously located in SA 5067 (from 2014-01-18 to 2014-09-23), SA 5067 (from 2007-06-21 to 2014-01-18). AUSGIN imagery identifies Uranium and Thorium minerals in rocks and other deposits, including mineral sand mining waste. It identifies multiple near-beach sites in need of environmental restoration and this is occurring, particularly in New South Wales. The radio-mineral...

Evetts Field in the Woomera Prohibited Area

Image
Radiometric imagery withheld from public at Evetts Field and Lake Reynolds, SA.  Recent high-detailed radiometric imagery  from the Gawler Craton Airborne Survey (GCAS) is not available for the area surrounding Evetts Field. A close examination of the data file shows that this area was over-flown, but the data has been removed. This may be to conceal the radiometry of the shed containing the 10,000 drums of CSIRO waste from processing Uranium and Thorium ores at Fishermans Bend . It may also conceal the old HIFAR core of the Lucas Heights reactor. A small sample of these drums have been previously analyzed by CSIRO . The condition of these drums is deteriorating, and the Federal Government wants to move them to an interim intermediate-level waste storage facility at Kimba, SA.
